Instead of Your Mouthpiece

Instead of Your Mouthpiece examines the materiality of the medium as a form of authorial subjectivity, and considers how the ambiguous will embedded in the body, in action, and in thought uses material form to reach expression.
The textual component was developed collaboratively with writer Feng Taozi, who contributed an innovative collage-style experimental text. The work gathers titles from Roland Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse and reorganizes them into a language structure reminiscent of a sewing kit, accompanied by an original tangible edit titled Blue Ribbon.
In the material design of the silk scarf, language is affected by gravity, wind, and chance, in the same way that thoughts shift when the scarf is worn on the body. At the same time, the secondary processing of the text into a series introduces multiple intertextual layers during reading. This allows the text to converge with the core tone of the work, where thoughts appear blurred, scattered, and carried by air, across its various communicative forms.
